What Are Tarot Cards and How Do I Use Them?
I read with a set of cards called the Smith-Waite deck (or Rider-Waite, or Rider-Waite-Smith). These cards are rich with imagery depicting four suits (fire/wands, water/cups, air/swords, earth/coins) and court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King)–just like a deck of cards. What is unique about this deck is the set of 22 "trump" cards called the Major Arcana. These cards depict the Hero's Journey (the monomyth structure of mythology popularized by Joseph Campbell), that begins with a step into the unknown, involves learning lessons, fitting into the world, facing challenges, and making choices.
Carl Jung spoke of using Tarot as a way "to accelerate the process of 'individuation', the move toward wholeness and integrity, by means of playful combinations of archetypes." Individuation is described as achieving self actualization through integrating the conscious and unconscious mind.
I don't see Tarot as fortune telling. You have free will and can change your path if you don't like the outcome of your reading. You also have the free will to stay the course and ignore the messages. I see Tarot as useful tool for supporting the personal study of your own mind. Seeing an image as opposed to simply thinking a thought tends to support you in bringing the unconscious mind to the surface in a concrete way, for the conscious mind to see and integrate.

What Does a Reading Look Like?
Question: The MOST important part of a reading involves asking the right question. The more specific your question, the more specific your answer!
Some people come to a reading and don't have anything specific they're looking for support or clarity with. If this is the case, I will do a general spread for you – information about where you are, challenges, strengths, what is in your unconscious and conscious attention, hopes and fears etc – and specific questions may come out of that general reading that we can elaborate on.
If you have something you're thinking about, we will chat a little but and find the exact right thing you're looking to get some clarity on. This is my favourite part! Then I choose an appropriate spread to answer you inquiry.
Process: In this online setting, I lay out your cards and then photograph your spread and text or email you the photo. I put small pieces of paper underneath each image so that you have a document of what each placement stand for, so you can further reflect in your own time after our reading. Then I share what I see (what your unconscious mind is telling your conscious mind in this moment), and we chat about it all.
No magic. No fairies. Just practical guidance to encourage you and help you get past internal blockages.

"Kass's tarot readings are very intuitive. They include a lot of helpful explanations of the symbolism and many options of different types of readings. They always leave me with a lot of food for thought and the right amount of guidance and direction. I always feel like I can contribute my ideas and draw my own conclusions in a safe and nonjudgmental space."

“My Tarot reading with Kass felt like going on an adventure into future possibilities. Rather than just being given a reading, I felt we co-created one, discovering something together neither of us could have found on our own. I brought a charged question to Kass, and the experience of working with it was gentle, insightful, and fun! Many months later, an image from the reading is still with me, a guidepost as I continue to explore."
