This introspective class is a place to practice allowing our breath to guide us towards discovering our own personal practice from the inside out.
Expect to practice coordinating each movement with our slowest and most comfortable breath, and to find a place where the seeming opposites of sthiram (strength/stability) and sukham (ease/softness) can co-exist. This is a mindful practice where we will practice connecting with our inner witness, our puruṣa, the decision-making part of ourselves that is able to help us find agency, autonomy, strength, and resiliency in our lives.
Expect a variety of classical tools of yoga throughout practice, including bhāvana (visualizations), mantra (silent or aloud), formal prāṇāyāma (formal breath practices), and dhāraṇa (concentrative meditations).
No meditation experience necessary.
7 Week Breath Series
Each session of this breathing series will begin with brief lecture and question period, then move to simple and accessible movement and breath practice to support each stage of the breath exploration, and finish with some discussion time.
Week 1 – Practices to support a healthy and full Exhale
Week 2 – Practices to support a healthy and full Inhale
Week 3 – Practices to consolidate Inhale and Exhale Together
Week 4 – Practices to support a healthy and relaxed Pause After Exhale
Week 5 – Practices to consolidate Inhale,Exhale, and Pause After Exhale Together
Week 6 – Practices to support a healthy and safe Pause After Inhale
Week 7 – Practices to consolidate All Four Parts of the Breath Together
