Yoga for Real Life
And all its bumps, bruises, extra weight, and stops and starts.

I was complete mess when I found Kassandra–mentally and physically. I’ve taken both public chair classes as well as private sessions over our past 3 years together. When we met, I was walking with a cane, bent over, and in a lot of pain. Now, I am walking without a cane for 1 1/2 years, am walking straighter, and my pain has decreased significantly. Friends comment how I’m more flexible and on how much better I’m walking, how different I am, and how much more relaxed I am.

Our work together started with working on the body, but it's incredible how much Kassandra has helped me with my mental and emotional health! I was facing many issues concerning family, relationships, negative self-talk, low self-worth, and low body image and now I feel much more confident and with a new sense of self esteem. I've learned to listen to the needs of my body, both mentally and physically, as well as how to express myself, which I wasn't able to do before. I used to say "Yes" to everything, "Sorry" to everything, and I don't do that anymore. To me it feels like a 360 degree change.

I'm not as worried about what others think of me and I don’t need the validation of others (it used to be very important to me). I don't feel lonely anymore, where I used to feel lonely when I was married, lonely with my friends. I used to be scared of being alone, whereas now I'm alone but I'm not lonely. The people that are coming towards me now are nicer to me, and accept me for myself. This is really what's happened to me, I'm not making it up. I'm really proud of how far I've come. I never would have said that 3 years ago.                – Halyna K.

Yoga Therapy is a 1 - on - 1 practiced, considered in the Krishnamacharya tradition to be like surgury without the knife.

A personal practice designed for each individual according to their current health status, life circumstances, age, location on the globe, season, family situation, and more.

One of the goals of yoga in this lineage is to support the individual to get to know themselves and their needs so deeply, unencumbered by habit or emotion, that they can shift their daily practice as needed to keep themselves in healthy balance.

Who Can Benefit
Yoga Therapy as part of the healing process is often used in chronic or long term conditions like:
  • Adrenal Fatigue / Burnout
  • Arthritis and Joint Pain
  • Asthma, COPD, and other Breathing Obstructions
  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Chronic Stress
  • Chronic Headache / Migraine
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive Issues
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Herniated Disks
  • High Blood Pressure

  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinsons
  • Stroke Recovery

What to Expect in a Session
Read this article for a great description of the differences between a yoga class and a yoga therapy session: https://yogainternational.com/article/view/The-Distinction-Between-a-Yoga-Class-and-a-Yoga-Therapy-Session

Intake: You will do an intake online before we meet. We will go over that together and you can share any relevant medical documents you have at that time, as well as set any short and longer term goals you might have. We will then do a few simple assessment movements and observe your breathing.

Session offerings: TKV Desikachar speaks of his father, Krishnamacharya, and the art of designing a practice for the specific individual as thus: “My father had adapted underlying principles of Yoga to the specific problems, not merely drawn upon a traditional repertoire.” With that in mind, we don’t only look at using āsana familiar from pictures we may see on the internet, we do any number of things to address your long-term health goals:
• individually tailored and appropriately sequenced yoga movements (āsana)
• therapeutic ball rolling (tissue release / self massage)
• conscious breathing practices (prāṇāyāma, chanting sounds/mantra-s/prayers)
• diet and lifestyle recommendations

• mindfulness and visualization practices
These offerings are all tailored to the time you have available, your needs, goals, current lifestyle, age, work and family life etc.

Take-Home: After your session you will take home a diagram of your suggested practices or an audio/video recording of your practice, plus notes on lifestyle shifts to practice daily as suggested. The effectiveness will shift depending on how diligent the practitioner is in their home practice.

Follow Ups: As your life changes, your practice needs to as well; there is no such thing as a single lifelong practice. Every individual will have different needs at different ages, place of residence, time of month, location of living, work situation, family situation, and more. My ultimate longterm goal for each student is for them to know themselves well enough that they understand how to modify their daily practice as needed to keep themselves in balance. This will look different for every single individual I meet depending on their goals, commitment to practice, and stage in their journey towards healing.

Kassandra & their Yoga Therapy practice gifted me with a renewed sense of hope and a beautiful reconnection to myself. I struggled through so much pain & despair for three months resulting from a shoulder injury. Even with regular online physiotherapy sessions (owing to Covid-19) I experienced so many setbacks, heightened feelings of isolation and, at my lowest point, a deep severance between my physical self and myself as a spiritual and emotional being. After just one session with Kass I felt a resonant, radiant mind-body-spirit reconnection. My shoulder started to heal steadily. Kass breathed light, strength and balance back into my life, reminding me to listen, trust, and let go. My sense of self was restored. I cannot overstate how much I believe you should book a session with Kass … they are the BEST. Period. Learning to work with instead of against yourself physically and emotionally is such a gift!! Tarot Readings

Picture
Carl Jung spoke of using Tarot as a way "to accelerate the process of 'individuation', the move toward wholeness and integrity, by means of playful combinations of archetypes." Individuation is described as achieving self actualization through integrating the conscious and unconscious mind.

Tarot is not fortune telling. You have free will and can change your path if you don't like the outcome of your reading. You also have the free will to stay the course and ignore the messages.

I see Tarot as useful tool for supporting the personal study of your own mind. Seeing an image as opposed to simply thinking a thought tends to support you in bringing the unconscious mind to the surface in a concrete way, for the conscious mind to see and integrate.

Readings (Online on Zoom):
**schedule in EST**

• 15 min – time for a simple inquiry and to the point reading
• 30 min – more time to describe your reading and for you to ask questions
• 60min – ample time to discuss your reading, with potential for follow up questions or a second reading of a different question

Cost: By Donation

You can pay with credit card when you book or send an e-transfer to yogawithkassandra@gmail.com. Most people donate between 50 cents a minute and $2 a minute or more
